Emil's Out To Break RecordsMarch 31, 2003
SARS and Saddam aren't on his mind. Instead, breaking last year’s records is, says NKF’s resident guest celeb Emil Chau.By Ang Ling Ling
Don't be fooled by his infectious hollers of laughter. Taiwan’s funniest crooner Emil Chau is dead serious about breaking last year’s records for NKF Charity Show donations “even if it’s by $ 1.
“I’m very greedy this year... I truly hope we'll break the records this year...it’s the only way to prove that there are indeed miracles in this world. I think the figures should go up, I mean property prices are also going up right? Ha...but jokes aside, if we can break records, it proves that there’s still hope for human beings.”
So deeply involved is the regular that the annual fundraising event is almost like a family tradition to him. Even my kids would ask me, ‘eh dad, it's about time you go Singapore for NKF, isn't it?His good pal Jack Neo also lets slip that Emil would feel terrible each time he has to miss a show.
So it is no surprise then that the vocal powerhouse has committed himself to this year’s show. It promises after all, a special extravaganza to mark NKF Charity Show's 10th Anniversary as well as Rock Records’ (who represents Emil) 10 years of establishment in Singapore.
To celebrate its birthday, Rock Records, together with the NKF, will be arranging for a rarely seen all-star appearance by some of its recording luminaries including Mayday, Lee Wei, Alex Toh, Ambrose Hui, Fish Leong, Victor Wong, Michael Wong, Huang Pingyuan, Jeffery Kong and Winnie Hsin.

With such an impressive turnout by some of his fellow colleagues, one wonders if Emil, who has dished out plates of ice-kacangs and gone on his knees to urge for donations in previous years, has any intention of putting up special stunts as part of his ‘record-breaking’ efforts?
When I stand among my Rock colleagues, I’ll be the oldest and that itself is a feat! Ha...that's why I try to stay positive in life... I have to, especially when I need to be on the same stage with the rest of the Rock artistes! Ha...
Truth is, the old hand is open for discussions to do anything within his limits; maybe even a dance or something. But heck! I might just do anything, even dangerous stuff...if the calls are not forthcoming,” he deadpans.
Sounds like the funny veteran is not contented to be upstaged by his younger peers?
Yep, anything... I’m only afraid of my wife! Ha, ha, ha...
Make a date with Emil and friends on April 13, 2003 at the NKF 10th Anniversary Charity Show 2003 Show 1 live!
